If I DO desire to become a leader, why does NewLife Church require all leadership to go through L.O.T?
Because Scripture calls us to lovingly and wisely examine those who desire leadership.
The Bible teaches that leadership in the Church should never be rushed or assumed. “They must first be tested and then, if there is nothing against them, let them serve” (1 Timothy 3:10). Living on Target gives us a biblical, relational way to walk with someone over time, not to judge them, but to know them.
Scripture also warns us not to move too quickly when affirming leaders: “Do not be hasty in the laying on of hands” (1 Timothy 5:22). Living on Target allows space for character, faithfulness, teachability, and spiritual health to be observed naturally in real life, not just in an interview.
Finally, Hebrews 13:17 reminds us that church leaders carry responsibility before God for those they shepherd. Because of that responsibility, we take leadership seriously and prayerfully. Living on Target helps ensure alignment in doctrine, values, and lifestyle while also protecting both the individual and the church.
This process is not about perfection, it’s about faithfulness, humility, and a desire to grow. Living on Target allows us to walk together in a way that is loving, biblical, and life-giving for everyone involved.
